On July 24, 2024, Salt Lake City-Utah was selected by the International Olympic Committee as the host of the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Continuing Legacy
The Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Games engaged hundreds of thousands of spectators and over 2.1 billion global broadcast viewers. Bringing a significant boost to Utah's economy, legacy, and identity, its impact is still felt today. Rooted in an athletes-first philosophy, Utah’s sports culture continues to attract athletes from around the world to train and compete in a welcoming atmosphere. The Olympic spirit and its values are deeply embedded in the fabric of Utah’s community.
The world-class venues built for the Games continue to see regular use and upgrades. Since 2002, more than 90 international world cup and world championship events have been held in Utah, supported by a dedicated pool of skilled volunteers. For example, the 2019 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships brought 1,800 athletes and staff from 40 nations and engaged 500 local volunteers.
