Softball, Spanish Fork Dons
The three-time state tournament MVP Avery Sapp led Spanish Fork Dons to a third-straight Class 5A state championship by striking out 206 batters in 129 innings with a 2.22 ERA and posting a .464 batting average with 11 home runs and 50 RBI.
Despite her freshman year being cut short by Covid-19, the two-time Gatorade Utah Softball Player of the Year finished her high school career with 660 strikeouts and a 63-6 record, which ranks seventh and fifth in the state’s record books.
A right-handed rookie pitcher for Utah Valley University, Sapp has four pitches in her arsenal—fastball, rise ball, curveball and change-up—averaging 62mph and topping out at 65.
