From First Event to $4 Billion: 25 Years of The State of Sport
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah | May 6, 2025 — The Utah Sports Commission is slated to surpass $4 billion in total economic impact on May 10, when the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship returns to Rice-Eccles Stadium—a landmark moment in its 25-year history of shaping The State of Sport.
Fittingly, this historic benchmark will be reached through Supercross, the very first event the Utah Sports Commission brought to the state on April 28, 2001. That inaugural event launched a new era of sport in Utah, helping to lay the foundation for what has become a dynamic and diverse sports economy.

“For the past quarter century, the Utah Sports Commission and its partners have worked tirelessly to shape The State of Sport,” said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. “This milestone represents more than just an economic figure. It’s a testament to the vision, collaboration, and long-standing relationships that have positioned Utah as a premier destination for sport and entertainment.”
Since that first Supercross event, the Sports Commission has played a central role in attracting more than 1,100 events statewide, helping build a thriving, year-round sports economy. From marquee events like the UFC Pay-Per-View and NBA All-Star Weekend, these efforts have helped cement Utah’s global reputation and were instrumental in securing the bid for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
“Utah has always been a key stop on the Supercross calendar,” said Todd Jendro, Vice President of Operations at Feld Entertainment. “With its world-class venue, supportive partners, and passionate fans, Salt Lake City continues to provide a warm atmosphere for riders and spectators alike. Feld is proud of its long history here and excited to be a part of this important milestone for the Utah Sports Commission.”
As the Utah Sports Commission continues its 25th anniversary celebration, May 10 Supercross race stands as a powerful symbol of both where the journey began—and how far it has come.
