Utah Utes victory over No. 6 ranked Kentucky Wildcats

University of Utah Men’s Basketball

A strong team effort led to one of the biggest upsets in Utah basketball history as the Runnin’ Utes took a narrow win over No. 6 ranked Kentucky in Las Vegas last December. It was the Utes’ first win over the Wildcats in 43 years.

With just 1:43 left in the game, Kentucky had closed a four-point gap to tie. Then the Utes took over. Timmy Allen, who led the game with 25 points, dropped a two to put Utah into the lead again. Then freshman guard Rylan Jones, whose three-pointers and six assists had spearheaded the Utes, iced a key free throw to make it a three-point margin.

In the final minute, the Utah defense buckled down, holding off the Wildcats for the win with the red-clad Runnin’ Utes leaping off the bench in the T-Mobile Arena at the buzzer.
