Highlight of the Year
Bienvenido Aguado’s Best Trick
Freeride Mountain Biking, Red Bull Rampage
For 22 years, Red Bull Rampage has revolutionized the world of freeride, bringing top riders to the toughest terrain, showcasing the biggest and baddest tricks, lines, and sends the sport has seen.
This year was no different, and one trick was so astounding that it earned not just the Best Trick Award presented by the Utah Sports Commission, but also The Kelly McGarry Spirit and People’s Choice awards.
Front flips are tremendously difficult because the rider can’t control rotation in the air. They require exact math for how much forward thrust it will take to get around. Spanish rider Bienvenido Aguado Alba threw down a 72-foot canyon gap front flip.
It was Aguado’s second Rampage appearance. The 36-year-old didn’t pick up the sport until 2008. Before discovering mountain biking, Aguado was doing front flips as a gymnast.
