A crash in the women’s 1000m at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games left Kristen Santos-Griswold just off the podium in fourth place. Fast-forward through the last two seasons, Santos medaled at every World Cup.

In 2023, the four-distance national record holder won 17 international medals—six gold, seven silver, and four bronze. One of those gold medals made Santos the first U.S. woman to win a World Cup race at 500m—and it was on the same ice sheet where she made her Olympic debut in 2022.

In the 2023 ISU Short Track Four-Continents Championships, Santos became not only the first U.S. skater in history to capture an individual Gold at this event, but she did it three times, winning the women’s 500m, 1000m, and 1500m, all in two days.
