Team USA announces full roster for Paris 2024 Summer Olympics
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah | July 10, 2024 — Twenty-five Olympians with Utah ties have been selected by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee to represent Team USA in Paris. Highlighting the state’s dual identity as a winter sports hub from 2002 Olympics and Paralympics and an emerging destination for summer sports.
“The same mountains renowned for The Greatest Snow on Earth also offer vast trail systems for running and mountain biking and technical routes for climbing,” said Utah Sports Commission President & CEO Jeff Robbins. “Utah is a year-round sports destination.”
Building on to Utah’s sport and Olympic legacy, USA Climbing relocated its headquarters to Salt Lake City in 2018, establishing a National Training Center that annually hosts World Cups. Notably, all eight climbers slated to compete for Team USA either live or train in the state of Utah.
“Since 2002, our state has been a proud host and home to the world’s greatest athletes and events,” said Utah Sports Commission President & CEO Jeff Robbins. “Sports are ingrained in our DNA.”
There’s been a cultural shift in Utah towards endurance sports. IRONMAN has dubbed Southwest Utah as “The Land of Endurance”, hosting 16 races in Washington County alone between 2010-2024, generating approximately $225 million in economic impact. Meanwhile, Utah County has become the home of the Run Elite Program, a premier professional running club that has qualified six runners for Paris.
