Olympians with Utah ties represent one-third of Beijing 2022 Team USA selections
Park City, UT (January 26, 2022; updated January 31) — Utah is central to the United States’ 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Team as a place to live, train and learn.
Olympians who were born in Utah, live and train full-time in Utah or were educated in Utah represent 80 of the 225 athletes headed to Beijing – over 35% of the total team.
“Utah’s venues remain essential resources for all of Team USA’s athletes on their journey to compete in the Olympics and Paralympics,” said Colin Hilton, CEO and President of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation. “These athletes are testament to Utah’s continued commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic movements.”
Thirteen of the 225 member delegation were born in Utah – competing in disciplines including freestyle, alpine and cross-country skiing, bobsled and skeleton, snowboarding, and speed skating.
“Utah is the State of Sport and has built a robust culture for athlete training and competitions over the past 20 years,” said Utah Sports Commission President and CEO Jeff Robbins. “Since 2002 we have partnered on almost 1000 sports events in the state, making it a key competition and training site for Team USA and athletes from around the world.”
