The Country’s Best Endurance Athletes Set Their Sights on Utah for Spartan’s 2019 US National Series Finale.

HUNTSVILLE, UT  (JULY 19, 2019) – The best endurance athletes in the country descend on Huntsville, Utah for the final race of the 2019 Spartan U.S. National Series, July 20 at 7:30am. Unfolding at the Snow Basin Resort, the elite race takes place on a signature “Spartan Super” course with more than eight-miles of technical, mountainous terrain with a 3,000-foot elevation gain and 25 signature obstacles. Men’s and Women’s Spartan National Series Champions will be crowned at the event, based on cumulative ranking points of the five-race obstacle course race (OCR) circuit – which offered more than $110,000 in cash prizes for elite racers. The event is sponsored in collaboration with Visit Utah, Visit Ogden and the Utah Sports Commission.  

 

Heading into the finale, Canada’s Ryan Atkins holds the No. 1 spot with 1092 series points and will face stiff competition from the USA’s Ryan Kempson, who sits at No. 2 with 943 points. In the women’s race, Canada’s Lindsay Webster, who sits at No. 1 with 1128 points is preparing to battle the USA’s Nicole Mericle who currently holds the No. 2 spot with 1104 series points. It will be a fight to the finish as more than an $8,000 purse is on the table in race winnings and an additional $35,000 for the series. 

 

In addition to the National Series competition, the weekend offers opportunities for athletes of all ages and skill levels to hit the race course with open heats in Saturday’s (July 20) “Spartan Super” and Sunday’s (July 21) three-mile, 20-obstacle “Spartan Sprint.” Spartan Kids races are also offered both days for youth ages four to 14. Following the finale of Spartan’s US National Series, athletes from the US, Canada and Mexico will face-off at the Spartan North American Championship August 24, 2019 in Glen Jean, WV – paving the road to the 2019 Spartan World Championship powered by Rakuten in North Lake Tahoe, CA September 29 – the premier event on the global OCR calendar, which draws a field from more than 50 countries.
