Salt Lake City, Utah set to host USA Judo’s Youth National Championships and 2020 Junior & Cadet Team Trials, March 28-29, 2020

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – One month from today (Friday, February 28, 2020) USA Judo athletes and members from around the country will converge on Salt Lake City, Utah for the 2020 USA Judo Youth National Championships.  Hosted by the Utah Sports Commission and Visit Salt Lake, the event will be held in the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center which 18 years ago served as the site of the Main Press Center and International Broadcast Center for the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The event will also serve as the USA Judo Team Trials for four teams that will compete internationally later this year.  The International Judo Federation recently announced that Istanbul, Turkey will host the World Championships Juniors 2020, August 17-20 immediately followed by the World Championships Cadets 2020, August 22-25.  Teams will also be chosen to represent USA Judo at the 2020 Pan American Cadet and Junior Championships in Managua, Nicaragua on July 11th and 12th respectively.

The 2020 USA Judo Youth National Championships will also kick off club competition for the 2020 Team USA Judo Award.  To be recognized as the top performing USA Judo Team, a club must finish the year with the highest combined ranking from all four USA Judo National Events.  To earn the title a club must be well-rounded as the ranking takes into account all age and class levels of competition.  Saturday, March 28th will see the inaugural USA Judo National Team Champion flag awarded to the Ki-itsu-sai Judo National Training Center (Coconut Creek, Fla.) which finished 2019 as the top performing USA Judo registered club.

The four USA Judo national events in 2020 will include the following:

Youth National Championships; Salt Lake City, Utah; March 28-29, 2020
Senior National Championships; Daytona Beach, Fla.; May 16-17, 2020
Junior Olympic National Championships; Winston-Salem, N.C.; June 19-21, 2020
